A Foundation in Drawing with Mark Thompson provides a path to reintegrate strong drawing skills into the heart of your practice. So often, as we progress in our chosen medium, we let our drawing fall away - "I know how to do that, now I can move on". Through this hands on course, I will refresh your excitement for drawing, and enable you to strengthen the underpinning of your creativity. Each week we will work together on exercises that explore line, value, and form, and how to apply these principles to your artistic practice. Course duration: 6 weeks, each session 2 hours. Time: 3 - 5pm Newfoundland time (1:30 - 3:30 New York Time) Week 1 - Materials and handling: tools, papers, erasers. A survey of what drawing can be. First exercises in seeing. Week 2 - Exploring the value scale. The eraser as a drawing tool. Week 3 - Combining line and value. Week 4 - Measurement, construction and mapping. Week 5 - Looking at the human face: towards a portrait. Rendering with charcoal. Week 6 - Bringing everything together, intregration into your creative practice. Materials list: Graphite pencils (HB, 2B, 4B, 6B), Nitram charcoal sticks, Charcoal pencils, White charcoal or chalk pencil, Pan pastel tool, plastic and putty erasers, medium grit sandpaper, sharpening knife. Minimum participants: 4
